Bobonong court denies rape accused bail

Bobonong principal magistrate, Goratile Moremi-Ramakoloi on Tuesday denied a 36-year-old man of Selebi Phikwe bail for a rape offence.

The accused was granted bail early this year, on condition that he did not commit a similar offence.

In an interview with Selebi Phikwe Police Station commander, Superintendent Meshack Pulenyane said that the accused already had two pending rape cases and was on bail at the time of committing the current offence.

He said the accused was arrested last week by Selebi Phikwe police after allegedly committing the third rape offence, involving a 24-year-old woman at Phase 1 in Selebi Phikwe.

Superintendent Pulenyane said the accused would be remanded in custody until he appeared in court again on November 3.

The police chief urged Selebi Phikwe community to report rape offences or any other form of gender based violence to enable the police to arrest the perpetrators.

He also added that the police treat rape and gender based violence cases with seriousness  and would continue to do their best to provide a safe and secure environment for the nation.

Furthermore, he pleaded with the community to be vigilant at all times and avoid wandering about at night. Ends
