Tshesebe police confiscate medical drugs, herbs

Tshesebe police this week arrested a Motswana man and three Zimbabweans for possessing a variety of herbs and medical drugs.

Tshesebe Police Station Commander, Superintendent Amos Kekgathetse said they stopped and searched a vehicle at Bisoli Veterinary Gate and found large boxes and sachets of herbs and capsules.

He stated that one of the Zimbabwean passengers had a valid passport while the two others had no travel documents.

Supt Kekgathetse said the boxes contained traditional herbs, greenworld products, ARVs, cleansing tea, kidneys, prostate care and viagra pills. The station commander said the perpetrators indicated that they were transiting from Ramokgwebana.

He said it appeared that the Zimbabwean nationals were distributors of the drugs in the black market, as they smuggled them from Zimbabwe to Botswana to look for a more lucrative market.

He highlighted that they were charged with non declaration of goods and that they were quarantined. The station commander implored the public to be vigilant and avoid buying medical drugs on the black market. He noted that they could cause serious health repercussions.

In another incident, two people were arrested after disregarding orders to stop at a road block in Bisoli along the A1 road. He said the duo was travelling from Ramokgwebana in a Tlokweng route combi carrying six other passengers who were Zimbabwean nationals.

Supt Kekgathetse said the Zimbabweans were all without travelling documents.

Supt Kekgathetse said the duo were charged for aiding illegal immigrants. He added that they were taken into mandatory quarantine as per the COVID-19 protocols. He pointed out that the illegal immigrants in both incidents were detained in police custody while awaiting repatriation. ENDS
