Road accident claims pupil’s life

Sejelo police are investigating an accident in which an 18-year-old male Seepapitso Senior Secondary School learner was knocked down by a vehicle at Sebego Ward on Monday afternoon.

In an interview, Assistant Superintendent Ernest Sesinyi said preliminary investigations indicated that the 25-year-old VW Polo driver was overtaking while trying to avoid a head-on collision the vehicle veered from the road and hit the pedestrian and a nearby electricity pole.

He said the learner sustained head injuries and was rushed to Kanye Seventh Day Hospital and later referred to Marina, where he died the following morning.

He noted that they were awaiting postmortem results while the driver was in police custody to help with investigations.

The suspect, he said, would be arraigned before Kanye magistrate court once investigations were complete. In another incident, Assistant Supt. Sesinyi said a 32-year-old woman of Manyana died in a road accident at Lotlhakane East on Tuesday night.

He said a government vehicle had a head-on collision with a Toyota Ipsum which had two occupants.

He noted that the two drivers sustained minor injuries and were treated and discharged the same day, while investigations were ongoing to establish the cause of the accident.

In yet another accident, he noted that a 20-year-old female passenger was certified dead after the vehicle she was in overturned near Kanye Police College turn-off.

He said the 26-year-old driver, who was the deceased’s brother, was admitted at the hospital for two days and had since been discharged.

Assistant Supt. Sesinyi appealed to motorists to be cautious and obey road markings as well as speed limits.

He also urged them to be patient on the road to avoid accidents. ENDS
