Tutume police investigate attempted murder case

Tutume police are investigating a case in which a man attempted to kill his 26-year old ex-girlfriend.

In an interview, Tutume police station commander, Superintendent Jerry Halahala, said the incident occurred on Monday night when the 28-year old suspect from Pole in North East District asked for a cup to drink water he reported to have in a bottle.

He said investigations showed that upon receiving the cup, the suspect poured a liquid into the cup and splashed it on the woman’s face and lit a match stick.

Fortunately, the woman, who is a teacher at Nshakashogwe Primary School, managed to overpower the suspect, who also had a knife and rushed to a tap and extinguished the fire.

The station commander said the woman sustained serious injuries and was admitted at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital in Francistown.

The suspect was later arrested and would be slapped with an attempted murder charge.

He further said they had also managed to recover some items used in the attack at the scene. Ends
