Santhuma NDB loan campaign winner

Mr Tlhabologo Santhuma has won P50 000 worth of solar equipment after emerging the National Development Bank (NDB) loan campaign winner.

Forty-eight-year-old Santhuma was announced the winner on Friday during a draw held at the NDB offices in Gaborone.  

He told BOPA in an interview that he qualified to enter the competition after applying for a loan last year to purchase ploughing equipment among them, a tractor and a planter.

Mr Santhuma, who was not aware of his luck on the day he was announced the winner, said he was running around Gaborone fuel stations looking for fuel when he received a call from NDB announcing that he had won himself P50 000 worth of solar equipment of his choice.

“I was not yet sure if I have won and my coming to the bank quickly was to confirm if indeed I’m the winner.

I ran short of words when they told me the good news,” he said.

He said the P50 000 worth of solar equipment would help him to be innovative as he would now focus on better methods for a bigger production.

Mr Santhuma, who is not new to farming, said for the past ploughing season he managed to plough only eight hectors due to lack of rain.

He, therefore, promised to double his efforts.

The chief executive officer of NDB, Ms Lorato Morapedi said the promotional campaign, which ran for six months from October last year to March this year, was to stimulate sales and enhance product awareness.

She said the campaign, which ran under the theme: We Understand Farming Differently,  was aligned to the bank’s  Letsema 2019-2022 strategy that put emphasis on agriculture and innovation.

Ms Morapedi noted that the campaign was aimed at making farming more appealing and accessible to both the aspiring and experienced farmers alike.

She said it also served to remind their customers and the wider population of NDB’s commitment to supporting the growth of the agricultural sector.

“We encourage farmers to adopt innovative ways of farming, and that through our product offerings farmers will be able to equip their farms with the latest technology.  

It is NDB’s role to support the nation to reach its aspirations of food security,” Ms Morapedi said.

The campaign, she said,  generated massive interest across the country with numerous enquiries and applications received across all the four branches.

She said as part of their three-year Letsema 2019-2022 strategy, the bank had decided to proactively catalyse and stimulate the agricultural sector in response to the COVID-19 pandemic by establishing a P50 million NDB Agribusiness Stimulus Fund and launching yet another exciting campaign themed #FeedThenation.

The CEO said the promotion was aimed at catalysing the horticulture sub-sector by stimulating farmers to embrace innovative and transformative smart farming methods that would significantly increase local food production, particularly at a time of limited importation of food supplies. Ends
