BDF officer alleged rape case resumes

A case in which a member of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) is accused of rape resumed before Magistrate Refilwe Resheng on June 9.

Details of the case indicate that in March last year, Major Olefile Mmusi, 36, allegedly raped his colleague’s wife at the couple’s matrimonial home.

The state is expected to call eight witnesses, including the investigating officer and a medical doctor, Dr Merero Ntshese, who had already given evidence following interaction with the victim.

Dr Ntshese, based at Scottish Livingstone Hospital’s accident and emergency unit, confirmed having examined the victim. He said he observed laceration on some areas of the victims’ private parts.

However, he said he did not observe any visible body injuries except the traumatic sexual penetration, and brownish stains that appeared to be old discharges that might have been associated with trauma.

In a brief cross examination by the defence attorney, Mr Enock Mazonde on the possibility of the blood being that of old mensuration, Dr Ntshese responded in the affirmative. However, he said there were less chances of that being possible.

Assistant Superintendent Uyapo Koketso is the prosecuting officer in the case. Ends
