Quality of employees central to success

The success of the nation is dependent on the quality of its civil servants,  says Information and Broadcasting deputy permanent secretary Mr Oshinka Tsiang.

He was addressing employees of the departments of Information Services, Broadcasting Services as well as Government Printing and Publishing Services in Serowe December 4.

Mr Tsiang said for that reason, employees were expected to strive to grow professionally so as to be able to deliver services in an effective and professional manner.

His desire, he said, was to see all employees in the media departments growing professionally adding that a conducive environment was required for that to happen.

He said contrary to some beliefs, public officers could also grow and become competitive.

Mr Tsiang however said there was need to ensure that processes in the media departments allowed for employees’ professional growth.

He implored the employees to always be forward-looking when performing their duties in order to satisfy clients.

On other issues, he said told the employees that they had the responsibility to rally behind President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s transformation agenda.

To accomplish transformation, different units under the three departments had to be transformed and properly aligned, he said.

Mr Tsiang said some departmental processes which were not working had to be revived.

The departments, he noted, had resources, both material and human but were under utilised.

Mr Tsiang therefore called for introspection to see how best to use the resources at their disposal.

“We are going to turn around and make things right,” he said.

Mr Tsiang thanked employees for their hard work during the general elections, adding that though there were dynamics which were not understandable, they managed to cover the elections and report on them in a balanced manner.

He said the government media was expected to report both sides of stories and they managed to do that.

Mr Tsiang said  he believed going forward, the government media would get better and better.

For their part, employees raised some concerns top among them the need for maintenance of offices, provision of additional office space as well as shortage of staff housing.

They assured Mr Tsiang of their support towards helping him effectively deliver on his mandate.ENDS
