Pre-school graduates better performers

Children who have gone through pre-school perform better at Standard One both in terms of interaction and academically, says former Francistown mayor Mr Peter Ngoma.

Giving a keynote address at Francistown’s Tribute Pre-School and Day Care Center graduation ceremony and Christmas party Mr Ngoma said such pupils were in a position to start counting, colouring and  were  able to hold a pencil as they had been introduced to the basics of education.

He said pupils who had not gone through pre-school often had difficulties when they started formal education.

Mr Ngoma therefore urged parents to enroll children in pre-schools as a way of moulding them for advancement in education.

Pre-schools, he said, were not substitute maids but moulded children to become excellent performers academically and better citizens.

He said although pre-school  services came with a fee, it was worth it.

Mr Ngoma emphasised the importance of a conducive environment for learning to be effective.

He urged parents to participate in the education of their children by assisting them with homework which would enable them keep abreast of their performance.

Director of Tribute-Pre School Ms Carol Mclean said  the school started in 2014 and had a branch at Minestone Location.

Ms Mclean said the perception of pre-schools as baby-sitting centres had changed with parents now having realised that children were learning.

As a result, parents had gravitated to schools that provided quality education, she said.

She said pre-school gave children confidence and made them proud learners.

One parent, Ms Monty Seako said the school provided quality education and took proper care of children.

She said in addition to teaching, teachers also gave children parental love and care.

Reception Class teacher Ms Portia Mpofu said keenness for leaning had been instilled in the graduating children.ENDS
