Mwaanga assumes Extension Gunners reigns

Extension Gunners management have given Stanley Mwaanga the daunting job of restoring the club to its former glories.

Mwaanga, renowned for commitment to playing an entertaining brand of football particularly in his spells with Ecco City Greens and Gaborone United over a decade ago, agreed a two-year contract this week to become head coach of the Peleng giants.

Gunners’ secretary general Mavis Mosweu confirmed the appointment in an interview, saying that Mwaanga was sto start drilling the team this week.

Mosweu said the vastly experienced coach, who has also coached Prisons XI, BDF XI, Motlakase Power Dynamos and Township Rollers in the premier league, as well as Union Flamengo Santos and Black Peril in the first division, had promised to challenge for silverware in his tenure at Gunners.

Mwaanga replaced Pontsho ‘Piro’ Moloi, who as interim head coach impressively guided Gunners to 10th position last season.

Moloi will go back to the position of assistant coach, which he held last season in the league’s first round.

Mwaanga will get an opportunity to assess the team closely when Gunners clash with Notwane on Saturday in a pre-season friendly match at the Jamali Stadium in Tlokweng.

However, he would have his work cut out with Gunners having lost, and as yet not replaced, some of their important players from last season squad.

Regular goalkeeper, Katlego Mbise was snatched by Jwaneng Galaxy while defender Oabile Makopo joined Orapa United on a two-year contract.

Gaborone United are reportedly sniffing around talented young midfielders, Brian Mankanku and Baokeditswe Talane.

Strikers Ogomoditse Sitang and Lungisani Fanyana have on the other hand respectively joined Police XI and Notwane. The duo provided most of the goals for Gunners last season together with the now Security Systems hitman Kenanao ‘Flo’ Kgetholetsile.

However, Mosweu said Gunners management was working hard to replace the departed stars.

“We are in the process of signing some new players, but I cannot divulge much at the moment because we have not yet concluded anything.

We will make an announcement soon concerning the new signings,” she said.ENDS
