Ngurungu face Mapantsula in do-or-die encounter

Sankoyo Bush Bucks vice chairperson, Sekai Morotsi has appealed to Ngamiland community to rally behind the team as they welcome Lobatse-based giants, Extension Gunners at Maun Sports Complex tomorrow (May 25).

He revealed in an interview that the game was very crucial as it would determine whether the team stays in the elite league or joins first division teams.

The team is under pressure and is expected to take advantage of the 12th player to win the game, which would also mark the end of 2018/19 premier league season.

Supporters are bracing for the encounter, which may see the only northern team in the top league relegate.

Ngurungu is facing a tough opponent, Gunners, which is also fighting to secure a spot in top eight.

Morotsi said the team was ready and well prepared to lock horns with Gunners and was optimistic that Ngurungu would survive as the boys were fit and looking forward to the encounter.

The boys, he said had promised to fight until the end in order to make the region proud adding that “our priority is to be focused and collect the maximum points and remain in the top flight league.

All we want is your support, the boys are ready to fight,” he added.

Though many supporters had lost hope in the team, he said the players needed their encouragement and presence more than ever before as a motivation and morale booster during the crucial encounter.

The team used to enjoy a large following but the numbers had dropped slowly as majority came to the stadium only when Ngurungu play against big teams such as Township Rollers.

Morotsi revealed that preparations for the encounter were at an advanced stage noting that the boys had been motivated and went through counselling sessions.

Recently, before their encounter with Mochudi Centre Chiefs, he said the engaged one of the prophets from fire churches to motivate and pray with players.

The team is expected to meet again with the prophet prior to their last encounter and Morotsi was quick to explain that their interaction with him worked wonders for the team as they managed to overcome Chiefs.

Supporters’ committee secretary, Phodiso Keipone revealed that efforts would be made to organise activation activities to mobilise supporters and bring vibe around Maun prior to the game.

He admitted that supporters were failing the team as their numbers had declined drastically due to poor performance and appealed to them to rally behind the team.

He said efforts to call meetings to strategise and solicit ideas from supporters on how they could assist the team to survive relegation were in vain due to low turn up.

He said even after their last game, the team would continue with recruitment drive for membership.

He said the team had been struggling to secure a sponsor and is depending on the gate takings to survive. ENDS
