Road accident claims three lives from same family

Three people from the same family lost their lives on May 4 evening in a road accident that involved three cars in Tshesebe village along the A1 road.

In an interview with BOPA officer in charge of traffic at Tshesebe Police Station, Assistant Superintendent Otlaadisa Mogotsi explained that the accident involved two private cars which were coming from the Francistown direction and a passenger bus commuting on Gaborone- Harare route which was from Ramokgwebana border.

He stated that preliminary investigations indicated that a Mercedes Benz car hit a donkey while the Corolla Conquest trailing behind bumped on it and the driver lost control.

ASP Mogotsi further said upon losing control, the Corolla conquest which was carrying five people veered off and collided with a bus.

He highlighted that three passengers in the car died on the scene while two sustained serious injuries.

He said the deceased were a 28 year-old man, 24 year-old woman and a 12-year old boy while the survivors were 19 year-girl and six year-boy all from the same family.

ASP Mogotsi indicated that the driver in the car that hit a donkey was travelling alone adding that he sustained serious injuries and was also admitted at the hospital in Francistown.

Moreover he stated that of the 48 passengers in the bus, only the driver and conductor sustained minor injuries while the rest of the people escaped unscathed.

He stated that the family of the deceased had been notified of the death of their loved ones adding that police investigations continue.

ASP Mogotsi  expressed concern over people who failed to take care of their livestock and left them to roam on the road.

He said the A1 road was one of the busiest roads in Botswana hence it should be kept safe.

In another accident ASP Mogotsi  said a motorist hit a cow on Friday night at Ramokgwebana village and  the driver was admitted at Nyangabwe hospital with  serious injuries. ENDS
