Draft minerals policy completed - Mabeo

The draft minerals policy for Botswana which aims at increasing opportunities for locals to directly participate in the mining sector has been completed, says Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo.

Responding to a question in Parliament on behalf of Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, Mr Mabeo said the policy was aimed at achieving maximisation of economic benefits to the nation while enabling private investors to earn competitive returns and improve linkages with the wider economy as well as generate employment opportunities.

The minister was hopeful that the policy would also create a conducive environment for women participation in the mineral sector and strengthen local capacity for participation in the mineral development. Nkange MP, Mr Edwin Batshu had asked the minister to apprise Parliament on the progress in the development of a minerals policy for Botswana which sought to maximise the national economic benefit from mineral resources in the country.
