Seametso not amused

Southern District Council (SDC) chairperson, Mr Alec Seametso has lashed at his organisation top brass for a seemingly systemic failure to recognise hard workers and cultivate a performance culture.

Mr Seametso said this when delivering his speech during the first day of the on-going SDC full council meeting in Kanye.

Mr Seametso said he was boggled by the fact that a certain Mr Kheta Smile, senior roads engineer with his organisation was denied promotion after serving creditably during the time he was appointed on acting capacity. Mr Seametso said Mr Smile had done wonders for SDC during that particular stint and it beat logic as to why he was not appointed to the said position.

Mr Seametso retorted that star performers like Mr Smile should be recognised and retained by all means. Mr Seametso was responding to a concern raised by Kgosing ward councillor Mr Mosekisi Rangobana. Mr Seametso however challenged officers in the Southern District to work hard. He congratulated former deputy district commissioner Mr Hamilton Mogatusi and her counterpart Ms Sebokwane Dikgope on their promotion to director and district commissioner respectively, adding that hard work paid.

Mr Rangobana had complained that Mr Smile was denied promotion after serving the organisation with diligence when he was acting for a senior position, which had fallen vacant.

Likewise, he argued that a good performance culture should be reinforced by recognising officers who worked hard. Meanwhile the in-coming SDC council secretary Mr Charles Amos did not deny the accusation but pledged to address anomalies of the past.

Efforts to seek clarity on the duration of the officer’s acting appointment were futile as the assistant council secretary for the Kanye Administration Authority Mr Bathusi Regoeng said it was out of order for councillors to discuss administrative issues during a council meeting. Ends
