Maun police investigate triple murder incident

Maun police are investigating a case in which two sisters and a child were murdered on September 7 at night.

Speaking in an interview, District No. 5 Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Peter Gochela said a 30-year-old man from Boseja was suspected to have murdered his 24-year-old girlfriend, her 32-year-old sister and her one-year-old daughter.

Senior Supt Gochela said police received a report from the suspect’s uncle on September 7 around 22:30pm stating that the suspect had written a note to him that he had killed three people in the bush at Boseja.

He said the suspect had invited her girlfriend’s family to his place for prayer sessions and tea.

Senior Supt Gochela said the two sisters attended the session and that the suspect convinced them to go to a near bush for prayers where he murdered them with a suspected sharp object.

He said the suspect had been in a relationship with the deceased girlfriend for more than four years. Senior Supt Gochela said investigations were still ongoing as they await a post-mortem report.

Senior Supt Gochela said murder cases in the district were alarming and advised lovers to always have a mutual understanding and respect whatever decision taken by one of them regarding the relationship.

Meanwhile, Senior Supt Gochela said they were also investigating a murder case in which a 38-year-old man from Bothatogo stabbed a man with a sharp object at Gumare. The victim was certified dead upon arrival at Gumare Primary Hospital.

The 38-year-old suspec, who is alleged to be mentally ill, is in police custody to help with investigations. ENDS
