Kutlwano confident of league title

Kutlwano ladies coach Opelo ‘Dopp’ Popo believes his team can go all the way and claim this year’s Mascom Volleyball League championship.

The ‘Big House’ registered two convincing 3-0 victories against Yaros Olympic Club and Spiking Stars over the weekend to narrow the margin between themselves and log leaders Mag Stimela to two points.

Kutlwano has accumulated 35 points from 13 matches while Mag Stimela has 37 points from the same number of matches.

After their weekend victories, Popo said his team needs to keep on winning their matches. He said their second-round encounter with Mag Stimela next month could be decisive in terms of which team wins the league between them and Mag Stimela.

“I am quite confident that we can win the league. So far, I am quite satisfied with our results because we have conceded only one set against Dynamites since the beginning of the second round,” Popo said.

He pointed that the fact that most of their victories in the second round were by 3-0 scores, including against their traditional rivals Mafolofolo and Kalavango last month, was an indication that they meant business. Kutlwano has registered five straight victories in the second round.

“If we could maintain this performance until we meet Mag Stimela it would be a plus for us. I think we would just be needing a win against them to win the league,” he said.

Kutlwano has a chance to move to the top of the league if they could beat BDF VI in Jwaneng on Saturday morning since Mag Stimela would not be playing this weekend.

However, third-placed Mafolofolo, which has also accumulated 35 points could go to the summit if they won their two-weekend assignments in Molepolole. Coach Kabo Ntshinogang’s team plays against Spiking Stars on Saturday and Kalavango on Sunday. Kalavango will face Spiking Stars in the other match on Saturday. Another women’s match will be between Yaros and Police VI in Serowe.

The men’s matches are as follows on Saturday: Diphatsa vs Yaros, Police VI vs Yaros, Police VI vs Diphatsa (in Serowe), Kutlwano vs Itekeng, BDF VI vs Itekeng, BDF VI vs Kutlwano (in Jwaneng), Spiking Stars vs Mafolofolo and Mafolofolo vs Kalavango (in Molepolole).

Spiking Stars will face Kalavango in Molepolole in the only men’s match on Sunday. ENDS
