BIH Fund gets start-up

Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Dr Alfred Madigele says government start-up contribution to Botswana Innovation Hub Fund is P12 million.

Dr Madigele said the current balance was P12 million as there had not been any disbursement as yet.

He explained that the Botswana Innovation Hub Fund order of 2010 was reviewed this year to Botswana Innovation Fund order of 2017.

He said the review led to the replacement of the board of trustees with an Innovation Fund Committee.

The minister stated that the fund committee had been established.

Dr Madigele further said the intended beneficiaries were innovative start-ups as well as companies and organisations registered under Botswana Innovation Hub.

Specially Elected Member of Parliament, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo had asked the minister to state government start-up contribution to the Botswana Innovation Hub Fund.

She also wanted to know the current balance associated with Botswana Innovation Hub Fund and if the board of trustees had been appointed.

She also wanted to know the beneficiaries of the fund. ENDS
