Makwala tournament assists schools with sport equipment

Six primary schools in Tutume have received sports equipment courtesy of Isaac Makwala Challenge Tournament.

The tournament chairperson, Shathane Mbaakanyi said on February 2 that the equipment was bought with proceeds from the tournament held in December last year.

He said they managed to raise P12 000 and the 70 per cent of the amount was used to buy the sport equipment donated to Selolwane, Tutume Central, Timbi, Maporisa, Thini and Magapatona primary schools.

Mbaakanyi said Isaac Makwala Challenge Tournament was an initiative of four football tournaments in Tutume which felt the village needed to honour him following his performance at the World Athletic competitions last year.

He said the four festive tournaments; Goledzwa, Tjilagwane, Tjivulamagwe and Tjinyuni Babili have also agreed that 30 per cent of the proceeds be donated to Makwala.

For his part, Nkange area Member of Parliament also Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Edwin Batshu applauded the committee for engaging in the projects.

He said they had done a remarkable job, adding that they had set a good example for others.

Batshu also urged learners of those primary schools to take education serious to fulfill their dreams.

He said most people who succeeded in life like Makwala worked hard to achieve their goals..

He also urged parents to always visit schools to be informed about their children’s education. ENDS
