Kwatala ya Poko releases A re tlhopheng

With the national elections just a few months away, 26-year-old Uauruma Kandjou took it upon himself to spread the message and encourage Batswana to take part in the elections and vote.

His recent single titled A re tlhopheng is a traditional rendition that has incorporated different languages such as Sebanderu, Sekgalagadi, Sesarwa and Sekalaka to allow the message to spread across some Batswana who could not hear or speak Setswana.

Kwatala ya Poko, as he is known in the music circles, expressed in the song the importance of  young people taking part in the national elections as they had the responsibility to do so.

“As an artiste, it is my responsibility to urge young people to take elections seriously as they are the ones who can bring change in our country.  It is also important tell voters and potential leaders that votes are not for sale and the voting process should be free and fair to all,” he said.

Born in Kareng in the Ngami region, Kwatala ya Poko developed his love for traditional music at a tender age of six after discovering Setapa.

He however started taking his musical career seriously in 2006, which later saw him forming a traditional group called Dikwankwetla in 2009.

He released his first album as a solo artiste titled Moilwa gae ga a lobelo in 2013.

However the album did not do well in the market as he was still in school.

Going forward, Kwatala ya Poko would like to grow in his musical career.

He appealed to Batswana to support him and make him grow as an artiste. ENDS
