MP optimistic about project success

Tati West Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Biggie Butale is optimistic of achieving his objective of raising P20 million for the construction and equipping of computer laboratories in 34 schools in his constituency.

The MP cycled 550 kilometres from Masunga to Gaborone in a mission to raise the funds last week.

Speaking during a brief ceremony to mark the completion of the five-day cycle challenge in Gaborone recently, Mr Butale explained that the journey was successful.

He said they received pledges of financial assistance from communities in various villages on their way to Gaborone, including Serule, Mahalapye, Dibete and Artesia.

He also expressed gratitude to Botswana Railways Express for providing a team of riders that accompanied him from Mahalapye to Gaborone as well as making P15 000 contribution.

“Batswana contributed different amounts of money on the way, at the bus stops and everywhere we passed. It was very humbling,” Mr Butale said.

He said while P20 million was a big amount the target was achievable. “If we can contribute P10 each one of us we will be able to raise the money. Big companies have also made their pledges and I hope we will reach P20 million,” he said.

He said his mission was to assist government to provide computers and Internet in schools.

Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Development, Mr Nonofo Molefhi praised Mr Butale and his co-riders for their sacrifice. He said what Mr Butale did was anchored on one of the pillars of the country’s development. He urged Batswana to follow suit and share the responsibility of developing the country with government.

Gaborone City mayor, Mr Kagiso Thutlwe said the initiative would help to change many lives. Ends
