BDP recruitment drive continues

Vice President and Botswana Democratic Party chairperson, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi says his party continues to garner credible members from opposition parties.

Addressing media in Gaborone on Monday, Mr Masisi said they had successfully recruited former Lobatse council ward aspirants from Tsopeng South, Tsopeng North and Woodhall wards, who are former members of Botswana Congress Party (BCP).

“We have had successful targeted recruitment of persons who are not ordinary people from Lobatse Constituency.

They are targeted because they are significant to and in the opposition. We have a compelling justification to convince them that it is the BDP, they ought to belong to,” he said.

He further said more was to come as they have had successful recruitment activities at Ghanzi South, Francistown West and Maun East.

Mr Masisi further said as they welcomed University of Botswana students into the party, it was a signal to underscore the point that the BDP was a party with a place for every generation.

Three University of Botswana Student Representative Council (SRC) members from the opposition were also welcomed.

The three, who joined the GS26 are vice president, treasurer and minister of sports and recreation.

BDP secretary general, Mr Mpho Balopi said the defection brings the total number of BDP representatives to 10 out of the 13 council seats.

He said he has confidence that the BDP will win the 2019 general elections.

“It is necessary to reassure Batswana that we are the best party to lead them now and in the future.

We have confidence in ourselves,” he said.

He said that during their recruitment drive, they managed to register important members in Ncojane and Kalakamati in the North East District.

“We are not going to slow down looking at what is happening on the other isle. We have to work hard for our party and reassure Batswana that we are the future,” he said. BOPA
