Under 17 ladies team ready for new chapter

Under 17 women soccer national team will on October 15 take on their Zambian counterparts in search for maiden feature  at the World Cup.

The qualifiers match between Botswana and Zambia  which is home and away will determine which team will take on South Africa and the winner will advance to group stages.

Speaking at a press briefing  recently in Gaborone, the newly appointed head coach Boniface Lekaba said he was confident that the girls were more than ready adding that 75 per cent of the team comprised of BISA athletes who are gold medalists from BISA competitions which were held in Lesotho recently.

When revealing the team, Lekaba noted that the team was led by Tebatso Pilane of Mochudi Brigade noting that Pilane was experienced as she had the opportunity to play for U-20 national team and therefore was better placed to lead the team.

Lekaba said the team had been in camp for eight days and had been training rigorously adding that the girls were responding positively during training.

He said the opportunity to play home will present Team Botswana a better chance to express themselves due to home advantage.

“This first league is a litmus test to us because the team is at development stage and at home we shall give our best and we are hopeful that we are going to proceed to the next level,” he said.

For her part, Pilane said the girls’ morale was high adding that it was going to boost the team’s performance.

“I promise good results but with support and encouragement from the nation, we will emerge  winners,” she said

Pilane said even though in Botswana the  ladies’ teams had not been performing well, Sunday game will be a different ball game all together as the girls looked to turn things around.
