Thabo Masilo to make plea Jan 18
Thabo Masilo, who is facing numerous charges, is expected to make a plea when he appeares for mention on January 18.
The 21-year-old Masilo is facing charges of murder, rape and robbery as well as indecent assault, stealing from a dwelling house and causing grievous bodily harm.
During Masilo's appearance Monday, lead prosecutor, Mrs Khumoetsile Tirelo from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) told the court that the state was ready to commit the murder case to the High Court.
The prosecution also promised to furnish the defence with relevant documents well in time to prepare for the case.
Other prosecutors in the case are Messrs Keorapele Sambere and Kutlo Tsekane.
The lead prosecutor also told a fully packed Village Magistrate Court that the prosecution had compiled necessary statements and other documents but was only awaiting a forensic report.
She said investigations relating to the murder and rape of Tshepang Motlhabane was almost complete and thus hopeful to commit the case to the High Court before the end of this month provided the forensic report would be available.
The accused, represented by Ms Samantha Mbikiwa, was alleged to have on November 16 last year stalked Tshepang, who had just finished her form five, into her house where he raped and killed her.
Tshepang's death has since sparked wide condemnation from members of the public as it came right on the heels of yet another woman who was also killed in Phase IV by three suspects who have since appeared before the court and their case was yet to be committed to the high court. ENDS
