Assistant minister hands over houses
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso handed over two houses to destitute persons in Gojwane last week.
Ms Tshireletso, who is also Member of Parliament for Mahalapye East, said government was committed to providing less privileged people in society with food and shelter.
She noted that thus far, a total of 22 houses had been constructed for people in the Tonota Sub-district. The assistant minister also explained that her ministry constructed 16 houses while another six houses were funded through the Presidential Housing Appeal.
Ms Tshireletso also explained that in the 2011/2012 financial year, Tonota Sub-district was allocated P537 600 to build six houses through the Presidential Housing Appeal in Tonota, Serule, Chadibe, Natale, Gojwane and Mabesekwa.
She also noted that in the 2012/2013 financial year, Tonota Sub-district was allocated P900 000 to build 10 more houses for destitute people. During the course of 2012/2013 financial year, Ms Tshireletso said over P400 000 was also dispersed to finance another six houses in the sub-district.
The assistant minister applauded the Village Development Committee for working hand in hand with village leaders to see the completion of the projects. She also encouraged local contractors to diligently carry out projects and meet deadlines as per contract agreement.
She said that there was a tendency by some contractors to abandon half complete projects. ENDS
