Magistrate lambasts Thamaga youths

Magistrate William Modise of Molepolole chastised three Thamaga youths charged with robbery for engaging in criminal activities. Magistrate Modise said there were assistance programmes that they could engage in to improve their lives.

He condemned the alleged conduct of the trio: Ofentse Tshekiso, Katlego Rabasima and Tumisang Nkwe all aged 20 when ruling in a case in which they were charged with four counts of robbery committed in October 2012.

Complainants in the four cases withdrew the case against the three young men, saying the matter was resolved between families because all the stolen goods were recovered.

When passing judgement, Mr Modise bemoaned the high crime rate, wondering why such a high number of men are perpetrators of most cases with females being victims. He called on the three accused persons to refrain from their appalling behaviour and avoid indulging in the use of intoxicants that can lead to committal of crimes.

“I am worried that men have resorted to criminal activities when there are some opportunities out there aimed at improving lives of individuals”, charged Mr Modise. He further challenged committees such as Men Sector to educate men about life changing skills to help them avoid engaging in crime.

Meanwhile, the magistrate sentenced 24-year-old Lesang Masane of Kokonje Lands in Kweneng to five years in jail for stealing a beast belonging to Mr Batoroki Magogwe at the lands.

Masane got convicted after he failed to convince the magistrate about how he acquired the beast after his initial claim that he got it from his uncle Mr Isaiah Masane was dismissed as unfounded. ENDS
