BEC releases BGCSE Results
The 2012 Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) results have posted a slight improvement in the number of grades received that are Grade C or better compared to the previous year, a press release from the Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) has revealed.
Announced by BEC on Monday (March 4), the 2012 BGCSE results show the number of grades issued in 2012 that are C or better being 32.3 per cent, a 1.4 per cent improvement on the 30. 9 per cent of the grades awarded in 2011.
But the percentage of candidates awarded 5 Cs or better was 25.4 per cent as compared to 28.72 per cent in 2011, showing a decline of 3.18 per cent.
BEC noted a significant improvement in performance in certain subjects, notably Home Management, Music, and Fashion and Fabrics, yet a general decline in performance across the rest of subjects.
While male candidates outperformed their female counterparts in Mathematics, Sciences, and Creative and Vocational subjects, female candidates did better in Humanities and Languages, and also on the basis of acquiring 5 Cs or better.
31 665 candidates sat for the 2012 examinations and were awarded 204 050 grades, 5 802 (0.03 per cent) being grades A or A plus. Two candidates were disqualified for “examination malpractice” while the results of 54 candidates have been withheld pending the completion of investigations.
According to BEC, candidates can access their results through short message service (SMS) technology, the BEC website and from their schools. ENDS
